Conscious Contacts

What you should be thinking about when you get theatrical lenses.

Woman with theatrical contacts

With Halloween and its Trick-or-Treaters soon to be knocking on our doors, there are some things you will want to keep in mind while coming up with a perfectly Spooktacular look.

Nothing quite sets a costume over the edge like theatrical lenses. You can transform into a cat, a zombie, or something else otherworldly within seconds. While it is tempting to buy a quick pair off the internet, it is simply not safe . Did you know that contacts are considered a medical device? Of course, they are managing and aiding your sight!

Our blog today will break down exactly why the effects of wearing contacts from anywhere but your optometrist, is a frightening proposition.

Are the lenses Hypo-allergenic?

With contact lenses it is important to consider the materials they are made from. People can be allergic to certain types of lens materials, or even the solutions which are packaged along with them. We can help ensure that what you are wearing is safe. If it turns out you are allergic, it can be figured out and dealt with in a timely manner, where as something from the Internet, you won’t know until it’s too late.

Are they chemical and preservative free?

When you order from an untrusted source, you have no idea what the materials even are. They could contain harmful chemicals or preservatives. Our goal is to make sure that you are sufficiently spooky and safe, some other’s goal might simply be to make money.

One size does not fit all

Lenses fit people differently. All eyes are not the same! An ill-fitting lens could cause corneal irritation and disruption of the tear film. These issues could lead to painful infections and or loss of sight.

Contacts actually decrease the amount of oxygen that your cornea is getting. We need to ensure that your cornea remains healthy and is receiving the appropriate amount of oxygen, otherwise, neovascularization could happen. Neovascularization is when the cornea, which is normally blood vessel free, starts to grow them in attempt to receive more oxygen. This super creepy condition can lead to a loss of vision.

Get the look you want while keeping your eyes safe

Glasses and specialty contact lenses (like Scleral and RGPs) are made to your prescription. Soft lenses are not. They have set parameters, meaning you need a professional to evaluate your unique eye for the best fit and power for you. It won’t matter how good you look, if you can’t see!

We know this amount of information can be…haunting, but please take it into consideration when purchasing your lenses. Visit the
theatrical lenses  page  on our website to peruse the different lenses we can order. They usually take up to 10 days to come in, so plan for the time and call us today!
