Finding a balance between beauty and eye health.

For a majority of women, the beginning of the day is putting on a face.

Whether you’re a fabulous makeup artist who spends hours perfecting shading, or someone who throws on mascara and calls it good, here are some tips and tricks to keep your vision secure.

Tips for applying makeup

Always start with a clean face.

Try using water soluble makeup.

Always choose non-greasy moisturizers and take care when applyingaround the eye area.

When it comes to eye makeup, use pressed powders opposed to loosepowders, as the particles are less likely to migrate under your eyelid thatway. Glitter may be appealing, but it also increases the eye irritant risk.

Do not use waterproof mascara, or mascara that easily flakes.

Take care when applying eye liner, and always stay below the water line.

Never apply your makeup in a moving car, or next to a large rambunctious dog. You don’t want a mascara wand, or eyeliner pencil, on your eye.

Do not use your makeup for more than three months, and absolutely throw away anything that causes irritation or if you have just had an eye infection.

And last but not least, if there was a golden rule to follow when it comes to make up it would be…

Always take your makeup off before bed! Avoid oily creams and instead use a mild facial cleanser or eye makeup remover pads.

Cosmetic companies around the world supply a plethora of products, and most of them are for enhancing the eye, so it is incredibly important to take care when applying.

Familiarize yourself with ingredients to steer clear of proven carcinogenic additives. Always read about the product prior to purchasing.

Here are some things to avoid in your makeup and cleansers:

  • Sodium Laurel Sulfate
  • BHA&BHT
  • Parabens
  • Polethylene Glycol/PEG’s
  • Propylene Glycol
  • Retinyl palmitate, retinyl acetate, retinoic acid and retinol
  • Petroleum Distillers
  • Isopropyl cloprostenate

They say beauty is pain, but you never want to sacrifice your health for glamour. Follow these few rules and you can have both!
